Your burning questions, answered.

  • Are your products Australian-made?

Yes, Angavu products are proudly West Australian-made and owned, imbued with personal experiences from Kenya, Canada, and Australia.

  • What are Angavu candles made from?

We use 100% soy wax and essential oils for our candles. All our creations are free from harmful chemicals or irritants — we offer nature in it’s pure form (our gift to you!).

  • What are Angavu candle wicks made from?

We use cotton paper wicks which are natural and eco-friendly. Cotton paper wicks offer a cleaner burn compared to other types of wicks, which means less soot and smoke. Candles also burn more efficiently and evenly.

  • Why is my candle burning unevenly?

An uneven burn often manifests as “tunnelling”. Our cotton paper wicks naturally minimise tunnelling, but this can still occur if you place your candle under air conditioning or near an open window as the natural direction of the flame is manipulated.

To avoid an uneven burn, place your candle on a flat, stable and heat-resistant surface, away from any drafts.

  • Do I need to trim my candle wicks?

Yes — trimming your candle wick to about 1/4 inch before lighting ensures a cleaner burn with less soot and smoke. This also helps the candle burn evenly and last longer.

Most notably, a shorter wick leads to a steady flame which prevents the flame from becoming too large. This reduces the risk of overheating, uncontrolled flames, and uneven burns.

  • Why is my candle suddenly gathering soot?

You may notice some black residue around the rim of your candle. This soot is caused from carbon being emitted as the candle burns, and is easy to fix. To minimise soot, simply trim the wick regularly and avoid burning candles in drafty areas. Any soot can be easily wiped away with a damp cloth.
